NEDA will accommodate all interests: Sarma
ITANAGAR, Jun 17: The spirit of the NEDA is very much alive and the BJP and all its constituents in the North East region, including the PPA, the lone regional political party in Arunachal Pradesh, should try to be as accommodative as possible to each other's regional and national interest,"said North Eastern Democratic Alliance (NEDA) Convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma.
He said that this during a meeting with PPA leaders in Guwahati.
"There may be some minor internal differences between the government and alliance partners which should be sorted out amicably," he said, while adding, "I will have detailed discussions with Amit Shah over your proposal to meet him with issues concerning social, economic and political nature."
He also informed that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Amit Shah is likely to visit Arunachal Pradesh shortly.
"Amit Shah is rescheduling his programme to Itanagar with two week's time," Sarma assured a delegation of the People's Party of Arunachal (PPA).

APTOA calls for development of state's pilgrimage destinations
ITANAGAR, Jun 17: The Arunachal Pradesh Tour Operators Association (APTOA) has appealed to the Ministry of Tourism to develop the pilgrimage destinations and historical sites of Arunachal Pradesh by including places in its Prasad Scheme.
The Prasad Scheme, launched two years ago gives focus on development and beautification of the identified pilgrimage destinations.
"Though the Prasad Scheme was launched along with the Swadesh Scheme in 2015, the state has not yet been able to reap the benefits of the scheme," the APTOA said in its memorandum submitted to Secretary (Tourism) Rashmi Verma during a consultative meeting, organized by the Ministry of Tourism at Guwahati on June 16.
It appealed to the ministry for inclusion of the state's famous pilgrimage destinations and historical sites under the scheme for further growth and development.
The APTOA also expressed its willingness to organize a joint familiarization tour of South Asian countries with the state's Tourism Department, wherein activities, like road shows, travel congress, and back to back meetings will be organized to promote and market the tourism potential of the state. It appealed to the ministry to allocate the required fund for this promotional tour.

ITANAGAR, Jun 17: The Nyishi Elite Society (NES) on Saturday said that Chief Minister Pema Khandu has assured to bring the bill for creation of Kamle (Kamla) district in the next session of the State Legislative Assembly.

With regards to construction of Nyishi Heritage village, the Chief Minister informed that the Government has already taken decision to set up the (Nyishi) heritage village at Hoj and Rs 2 crore is parked with the PWD (Western Zone).
It was further decided that the additional fund for setting up the said heritage village amounting to Rs 3.6 crores will be provided during this financial year.
Meanwhile, the NES also held an extended executive body meeting on Saturday, at Nyikum Nyia Hall, Nyirubjolli, wherein it was decided to constitute a committee to monitor implementation of the projects.
"In the process of the project implementation, no interference from any quarter with vested interest with an ill intent to sabotage the speedy implementation of the projects in question shall be allowed and tolerated at any cost," the meeting resolved.
The NES said that it would take preemptive measures against such forces in the larger interest of the expeditious implementation of the projects.
Rebia advocates for developing fishery sector

‘Daughter Yapi, many actions of humans have led to extreme weather in many parts of our beloved planet’, replied Abu Tani.
‘Abu, if it rains, it rains continuously, causing terrible floods; temperatures are rising throughout the country’ Yapi said.
‘Humans have caused large scale deforestation around our towns and villages. Humans have cut big trees for timber business. Even the vegetation near towns has not been spared. Vegetation has been cut in towns to create more land for buildings, roads and big projects’, Abu Tani replied.
‘Today there are many vehicles emitting poisonous gases into the environment around us. Poisonous gases are emitted by generators, industries, thousands of air conditioners and refrigerators. In most cities it is difficult to breathe due to the air pollution’, Abu Tani continued.
‘We are polluting our rivers...as a result many of us are drinking, bathing and washing with contaminated and polluted water. Due to pollution, contamination and deforestation, the small rivers and water sources that existed in or near our towns are drying up leading to lack of water sources.’ Abu Tani continued.
‘Uncontrolled fishing by using dynamite, generators and poison has led to depletion of traditional fish sources. Humans are not even allowing our fish to breed. Most birds have been exterminated by rampant use of air guns and rifles.’
‘Uncontrolled deforestation has led to the extinction of many species of birds, insects and animals. Traditionally there were variety of insects and birds that used to warn humans about change of seasons, natural calamities, and unusual occurrences with their typical cries and sounds. These insects, birds and animal that used to warn us are being exterminated due to large scale deforestation’ Abu Tani continued. ‘These typical cries and sounds by various insects, birds and animals acted as our friends and guided our lives.’
‘But Abu, we require industries, vehicles, generators, air conditioners and refrigerators to lead a comfortable life...are there any solutions from this frightening scenario, Abu?’ Yapi asked.
‘Though the damage to the earth’s environment maybe extensive, it may still not be too late to implement changes to reverse this process. The first would be carry out large scale plantation and nurture these plantations in our towns and villages. Our rivers in towns and villages should be cleaned up and decontaminated. We have to start shifting to electric, non polluting vehicles. Rain water harvesting, good drainage systems, use of bio gas and bio fuels, solar energy etc should be encouraged and implemented.’ Abu Tani continued.

DC assesses reasons for poor CBSE results
SEPPA, Jun 17: Taking strong exception to recent poor performance in CBSE examinations, East Kameng Deputy Commissioner Rajeev Takuk convened an assessment cum brainstorming of education meeting on Friday.
Enquiring about the causes for poor performance, the DC vehemently cautioned against dereliction of duties and straightforwardly stated that it is hard to fathom reasons for poor result based on petty issues. The DC expressed displeasure over those schools which had poor performance despite of adequate amenities.
The DC reasoned that there are several factors on dismal performance of schools in
the district. He observed that besides pedagogical and administrative failure, overcrowding
of classrooms, lack of basic infrastructures, rising number of repeaters, low teachers-

Suggesting some measures for streamlining the education system, the DC opined for participation of community and social organizations in monitoring, supervising and promotion of education in schools. He further suggested that reservation system in teachers' recruitment should be based on respective subjects rather than on total vacancy.
He has assured to look into the matters pertaining to overcrowding, schools infrastructures, shortage and posting of teachers, and other exigent issues as early as possible.

Taga calls for reviving traditional cotton cultivation
ITANAGAR, Jun 17: Textile & Handicrafts Minister, Tamiyo Taga said that traditional cotton cultivation needs to be revived in Adi belt through various schemes for future generations.
Addressing a Textile & Handicrafts Coordination and review meeting on June 17, Taga also underlined the need to improve productions under various trades in every craft centre, and adopt power loom technique in the state to increase productivity.
He also emphasized on amendment of present Recruitment Rules to attract quality technical persons in the department and stressed on creation of separate Sericulture Department headed by an independent director.
Speaking on the occasion, Textile & Handicrafts Parliamentary Secretary, Karya Bagang highlighted the need to implement schemes in all the districts as per guidelines to give maximum benefits to local weavers and artisans. She further assured to bring more funds and create posts wherever required.
Textile & Handicrafts Commissioner, Tahang Taggu stressed on achieving targets within the allocated budget and requested all officers to present schemes timely to the government. TAWANG, Jun 17: The Department of Urban Development and Housing, Tawang under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Urban) distributed 89 dustbins for installation at market areas, Tawang Monastery premises and other prominent places.
"Tawang being a popular tourist destination, visited frequently by domestic as well as foreign tourists, needs to be kept clean", said Tawang Deputy Commissioner, Sang Phuntsok.

Issues concerning women have gained prominence all over and a concerted effort is being made to enhance women's power, prestige, representation and participation.
Traditionally, women remained suppressed and oppressed in different forms of social,
economic and political spheres. There have been women's movements, initiated to influence
state's policy, society's orthodoxy and peoples' mentality towards women's rights.
Such activisms have compelled national government and international organizations
to take necessary steps to bring gender-
An attempt has been made in the Constitution of India to neutralize the collective

Globally, the establishment of the UN is a major landmark in recognizing equal rights and status of women with that of men. The UN established the Committee on the Status of Women (CSW) adopted Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) etc to ensure equality and endorsement of the rights of women both in public and private spheres.
Being important member of the UN and as member signatories of CEDAW, India formed
the Committee on the Status of Women in 1974 in order to uplift the status of women
in the sphere of employment, health, education and to ensure proper implementation
of rights guaranteed by the constitution to women. On the basis of recommendation
of the Committee, the Government of India adopted the National Commission for Women
Act, 1990, and which came into being on 31st January 1992. And on this line, the
APWWS as an organization spearheaded a movement which demanded for a statutory body
to look after women-
The first Commission was constituted on 4 January, 2005 and commenced its works on 17 January, 2005 with Jarjum Ete as the then first chairperson of APSCW, Lomte Riba, Gumri Ringu and Jaya Joram as members. D M Mallo, the then Director of Social Welfare and Women & Child Development of Arunachal Pradesh, acted as the Member Secretary of the Commission.
Therefore, this Act is an expedient to provide for constitution of a Commission for furthering the fundamental rights and directive principles of state policy enshrined in the constitution of India. It is a statutory body in order to improve the status and dignity of women in the state of Arunachal Pradesh, and also to investigate and enquire into unfair practices affecting self respect of women as, have the same powers as are vested in a Civil Court while trying a suit under the code Civil Procedure, 1908, (Central Act 5). Thus, the women of Arunachal Pradesh got a statutory body to convey their problems after 11 years of effort by the APWWS.

Apart from all this, the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women has also been given an additional charge of Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for protection of Child Rights (APSCPCR) under the section 17(1) read with the section 18 of the Commissions for the protection of Child Rights without any additional remuneration and extra staff by the Department of Women and Child Development, Naharlagun since 8 November, 2013.
However, it cannot be denied that the establishment of the APSCW was a significant
step by the state government, especially for the protection of rights of Arunachalee
women and to uplift their status. But at the same time, it is important to point
out that only giving a protection mechanism to Arunachalee women for their rights

Retired DFO and lyricist Taying Mize passes away

PASIGHAT, Jun 17: Retired Divisional Forest Officer and renowned lyricist and composer of the Adi community, Taying Mize passed away at the age of 66 after a prolonged illness at his residence in Mirku village, Pasighat on Thursday.
His family informed that late Mize was born on 28th June, 1951 at Rumgong village
and did his early education from the village (Primary) Higher Secondary from Aalo
and college from AMC, Dibrugarh. He served in the All India Radio as Assistant Director
from 1972-
Late Mize is also one of the first lyricists and composers of the Adi community. Some of his popular songs are Kaju Angong Giilaju, Tani Giida sim Kangkipa ngo and Nome ngo kenmape apiem bisito ngo.
Lok Sabha MP Ninong Ering, former Health Minister Dr Tangor Tapak and several others deeply mourned the demise of late Mize and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.
Late Mize is survived by his wife and four children.

Advocates Akoying Tekseng, Kabang Taron, Dipi Tasing, Oyem Panyang, Omin Tate and Dubom Tekseng, who were the resource persons, spoke about Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005; Consumer Protection Act, 1986; Arunachal Pradesh Victim compensation scheme, 2011; NDPS Act; Motor Vehicle Act and Right To Information Act, 2005.
An interactive session was also held, wherein the participants clarified their doubts.
Workshop on Rajbhasha held
ITANAGAR, Jun 17: A workshop on implementation of Rajbhasha was conducted by the Regional Office, Directorate of Field Publicity on Thursday last, which was attended by officials of all nine DFP units and from the regional office.
Addressing the workshop, Director Dr H R Keshavamurthy emphasized on the need to use Rajbhasha in official noting and correspondence with the other offices as per the Rajbhasha Policy of 1963, and underlined the need to reach 50 percent level of usage prescribed for Category 'C' states like Arunachal Pradesh.
Expressing displeasure over the slow pace of implementation, he instructed the monitoring committee to nominate two officials for Rajbhasha typing training at New Delhi immediately and others in phases.
Assistant commandant and Hindi officer of ITBP, Itanagar, Surjeet Singh Thakur also conducted training on preparing various type of reports of Rajbhasha and use of important Hindi words for regular official use.
